Alexandra Colón-Rodríguez, PhD, is a 2009 BPNP Scholar. She completed her PhD on Neurotoxicology at Michigan State University. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at University of California, Davis.
Alexandra shared this testimonial about the program:
"My recommendation to any student is to take advantage of this opportunity. It will be of great benefit for you and it will help you in many different ways. To me it was of great importance because it was my very first experience doing research and I also had the opportunity to present my work in local and national conferences, among other things.
As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to prepare the GRE, visit other universities and to know about their graduate programs, on top of acquiring a great experience that will add a significant value to your resume.
Finally, the relevance of being part of the "Fall program" is that you will be able to demonstrate that you not only have the potential to be a good researcher, but also a good student. That is where we show once again that we are capable of getting a degree in any institution in the US, and that the language will not be a barrier."
Eileen Rodríguez-Tapia, PhD, completed her graduate studies in the Graduate Neurosciences Program at Michigan State University. She is currently Assistant Profesor at Universidad del Turabo.
Eileen shared this testimonial about the program:
"To any student that intends to accept the challenge and that has to make a decision I would tell you to take it and to give yourself the opportunity to grow up and to learn even more. If you're uncertain in terms of doing an MD or a PhD, this experience will have high probabilities of helping you decide; and for any decision that you make it will make you a stronger candidate. Remember that you will get to know new professors and mentors that could give you excellent recommendation letters.
You can learn so much from this experience that when you look back you will surprise yourself of everything that you have learned and accomplished. You will work very hard, I will not say that it was easy because it was not, but you see the end product and that is very gratifying.
So, to any fortunate student that is offered this opportunity, take it, because now that I have been accepted into the Neuroscience Grad program, I know that it has been one of the smartest and most productive decisions I have made."
