The NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research is strongly committed to building the next generation of neuroscientists by expanding access to high-quality research training and educational opportunities. Blueprint-supported programs are designed to provide undergraduate students from resource-limited institutions with meaningful exposure to the neurosciences and hands-on research experiences that strengthen preparation for advanced training.
These programs seek to broaden participation in neuroscience by creating structured pathways for students who may otherwise have limited access to research infrastructure, specialized coursework, or mentoring in the neurosciences. Through focused undergraduate training, students gain the skills, knowledge, and professional development needed to successfully compete for and complete neuroscience PhD programs.
Blueprint-supported undergraduate research training activities include immersive research experiences, core and advanced neuroscience coursework, seminars, journal clubs, and additional enrichment activities that foster scientific identity, critical thinking, and persistence in neuroscience research careers.
Institutional support for this program is provided by the Provost; the Dean of the Graduate School; the College of Natural Science; the College of Human Medicine; the College of Osteopathic Medicine; the College of Veterinary Medicine; the Neuroscience Program; the Department of Physiology; and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
