Michelle Gartland

Michelle Gartland is the Administrative Business Manager and Founding Department Administrator for the Department of Translational Neuroscience, a role she has held since the department’s inception in 2009. She has collaborated with numerous Translational Neuroscience research teams since 2002. Her career began with several of the current Translational Neuroscience faculty at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, continued at the University of Cincinnati, and then she relocated with the team to Grand Rapids in 2009. Michelle holds a B.F.A. in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago and a Master of Public Administration with a Health Administration concentration from Grand Valley State University. She brings extensive expertise across pre-award and post-award grants management, finance and budgeting, human resources, organizational development and planning, compliance, and process improvement.
Beyond the spreadsheets, Michelle enjoys global travel, embraces all things Halloween, loves cooking and baking, gardening, and relishes sailing and kayaking with her partner, Richie.
