Crain's Grand Rapids Business named Jack Lipton, PhD, a notable West Michigan leader in health care.
Jack Lipton, professor and founding chair of the Department of Translational Neuroscience, is an influential advocate who played a vital role in COVID-19 response and health care equity during the pandemic. He actively worked on changing FDA and CDC policies to enable universities to assist overwhelmed clinical labs in conducting COVID-19 testing. He developed an innovative saliva testing strategy at Michigan State University, resulting in significant cost savings and effective mass testing. Lipton leads the Department of Translational Neuroscience at MSU, significantly advancing research in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease with over $100M in research grants. Lipton’s dedication extends to advocacy in governance as chair of the Faculty Senate at MSU and as president of the Association of Medical School Neuroscience Department Chairpersons
