Dr. Marcia N. Gordon received a new R01 grant from NIH/NIA for $2,960,000 for the project “Geroscience approaches to mitigate tauopathy in aged mouse brain”.

Dr. Kathy Steece-Collier recieved a new R01 grant from NIH/NIND for $2,786,857 for the project “Genetic Silencing of Striatal CaV1.3 calcium Channels as a Potent Antidyskinetic Therapy for PD”. 

Dr. David G. Morgan received a R56 of $632,262 from NIH/NIA as a subcontract toward the project "Preventing Alzheimer's disease with Cognitive Training (The PACT Trial)". 

Dr. Fredric P. Manfredsson recieved a supplement award of $349,547 on his NIH grant "Gut-Brain Axis in Alzheimer's Disease". 

Dr. Laura Y. Cabrera recieved a new grant from NIMH through the BRAIN initiative for $1,414,478 entitled "“Is the Treatment Perceived to be Worse than the Disease?: Ethical Concerns and Attitudes towards Psychiatric Electroceutical Interventions.”

Dr. Fredric P. Manfredsson was awarded a grant of $85,000 from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for his research on “URMC-099 in in vivo AAV-hSYN and in vitro Dopaminergic Neuron Models” .

Dr. Scott E. Counts received $8,000 in funding from Miles for Memories of Battle Creek for his research in Alzheimer's Disease. 

Dr. Caryl E. Sortwell was awarded the one year 2018 Faculty Research Award for $20,000 funded by the Pearl J. Aldrich Enodwment in Aging Related Research and Education. This is the third time Dr. Caryl E. Sortwell has been awarded the Pearl J. Aldrich Award.

Krik Gibson's Foundation Gibby and Friends vs. Parky awarded the Parkinson's Disease Reserach Project award to three of the TSMM faculty members: Dr. Nicholas M. Kanaan, Dr. Timothy J. Collier, and Dr. Caryl E. Sortwell. Dr. Nicholas M. Kanaan was awarded $200,000 on a two year award  “LRRK2 and Tau in Parkinson’s Disease”. Dr. Caryl E. Sortwell awarded $300,000 on a three year award for “BDNF Precision medicine for Parkinson’s disease." In addition, Dr. Timothy J. Collier awarded $300,000 on a three year award for “Genetic Link Between Aging and Parkinson’s Disease”.

MSU Researchers Participate in Local Walk to End Alzheimer's

The MSU Department of Translational Science and Molecular Medicine, along with the College of Human Medicine, teamed up with the local Alzheimer's Association and participated in the 2018 Grand Rapids Walk to End Alzheimer's.
