Michelle Gartland has served as Senior Department Administrator in the Department of Translational Neuroscience for over ten years. Ms. Gartland has worked with several members of the Translational Neuroscience faculty and staff since 2002, first at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and then at the University of Cincinnati, before relocating with the team to Grand Rapids in 2009. Ms. Gartland has a B.F.A. in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago and a Master’s of Public Administration with a concentration in Health Administration from Grand Valley State University. Ms. Gartland has extensive experience in both pre-award and post-award grants management, finance and budgeting, human resources, organizational development and planning, compliance and process improvement. When she isn’t working on spreadsheets Ms. Gartland enjoys international travel, collecting Pop Surrealism art, all things Halloween, cooking and baking, reading esoterica, sailing and caring for her clowder of geriatric cats.
